The Grade 5 Music Theory course is an intermediate-level programme designed to deepen students’ understanding of the fundamental principles of music notation, structure, and analysis in line with the standards of Trinity College London. This course builds on prior knowledge and equips learners with the theoretical skills required for higher-level practical and academic music studies. It is also a key requirement for progression to advanced graded music examinations.
Students will explore a wide range of topics, including:
Advanced staff notation and clefs
Key signatures and scales (major and minor)
- Intervals and transposition
Chords and basic harmonic progressions
Time signatures, rhythm, and grouping
Musical terms, signs, and symbols
Score reading and basic analysis
Through guided lessons, exercises, and exam-focused practice, students will develop accuracy, speed, and confidence in answering theory questions. The course also emphasizes practical application, helping learners connect theoretical concepts to real musical performance. By the end of the course, students will be fully prepared to sit for the Trinity Grade 5 Music Theory examination and progress confidently to higher levels of musicianship.
